10 Slides to Include in your Contractor Induction

We've compiled the 10 best slides to include in your contractor induction. Every contractor induction should include these ten topics to ensure the safety of your contractors.

1: Site Tour

Contractors are not the same as your day to day employees, they don't know the site, they aren't familiar with the building. An online site tour helps them understand the facility, locations, site hazards, access points and where the work areas are before they arrive on site to start their job.

2: Hazards

Very important for every contractor induction is a list of all hazards around the workplace and what to know about them. Awareness of hazards prevents incidents from happening. This should be an updated list, if not real-time.

3: Emergency Contacts

Who are the local emergency contacts? Who do you contact for different types of incidents and issues? What are the location hospitals and emergency services contacts? Environmental issues through to police should be listed here.

4: How to report an incident

Most critical is to empower your contractors with the tools and knowledge on how to report an incident or near miss in the workplace. They may need to take photos and capture important safety information around what happened, why it happened and why won't it happen again.

5: Site Access

What hours can the site be accessed, from where? how often, is there a gatehouse, are their sign in processes, where do they sign in?

6: Procedures

What specific procedures need to be followed around safety on site, manual handling, confined spaces, electrical safety and other common safety topics

7: Policies

What important policies need to be acknowledged and understood before the contractor continues any further work

8: Evacuation

What does the evacuation tone sound like, where do contractors need to proceed to in the event of an evacuation? Who are the fire wardens?

9: Chemicals

What do contractors need to know about dangerous chemicals on site? where are they? what to do in the event of a spillage?

10: Safety contact

What are your contact details? who is in charge of safety for the site? how do they reach you?
